Course Syllabus

 

Expectations:

Welcome to Mr. Murphy’s Algebra 1 class. I am looking forward to an exciting year in math.  In the honors class the work will be rigorous, challenging, and rewarding.  Students are expected to bring the following materials each day: 

  •  A binder filled with graph paper and white lined paper
  • Homework completed, all work shown, and corrected using online answer key
  • Covered math text
  • Ruler
  • Calculator (graphing calculator is optional) 

Major concepts

The major topics covered in this course are:

  • Linear relationships/funcitons
  • Exponential relationships/functions
  • Descriptive Statistics
  • Pythagorean Theorem
  • Quadratic relationships/functions

 

Homework Policy:

All homework is to be completed the night it is assigned.  Homework is an expectation of this class.  Homework is 10% of the grade for this course.  Homework must be done when assigned to make sure a student is getting the important practice.  All homework assignments will be posted on Canvas.

 

Grading Policy: 

The grade is calculated as follows 90% average of tests, quizzes, and projects and 10% for homework completion.  If a student receives a grade under a 60% on a test or quiz, the grade can be raised to a 60% by speaking with Mr. Murphy for the make up assignment.

 

Extra Help:

Extra help is available Monday thru Friday mornings from 7:00 – 7:40.  Starting in November, extra help will also be available after school on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Whenever possible, students should inform me ahead of time if they are coming for extra help.
